good news

A book created for an introduction to typography class, we had to do about 40 designs over the course of ten weeks, starting with only using a single font, 16 pt, and progressively adding more elements, such as text size and colour. the song that was chosen was good news by mac miller. this song was on mac miller’s last album that was released posthumously after his tragic death.

in light of his passing, the lyrics of the song take on a much heavier meaning. the song feels both down and hopeful and reflective at the same time, and i wanted to have those elements reflected in my designs, which is why i thought having a softer, watercolour look for the layout would be fitting. I also tried to draw on the imagery of the lyrics and themes of trying to appear better than you are for design inspiration.

After everything was done, the book was printed on water colour paper and bound with screws.
